Have you been experiencing shoulder pain? If so, it is very possible that you have a rotator cuff tear. Rotator cuffs tears are very commonly treated at our orthopedic practice, Oklahoma Shoulder Center. If you are looking for an outstanding Oklahoma City shoulder specialist in Oklahoma City, you will want to see Dr. Betsy Nolan.
The rotator cuff is actually a group of muscles and tendons that connect the upper arm bone to the shoulder blade. The function of these muscles is to stabilize the shoulder, and to allow the arm to lift and rotate. If a rotator cuff tear occurs, this may limit your arm movement and your ability to do your normal activities. You may also experience considerable pain when you attempt to move your shoulder. At our practice, we provide you with the full spectrum of treatment options including surgery for a torn rotator cuff. Surgery may be considered for large tears or when nonsurgical treatments have not improved shoulder comfort and function to the point where you are able to fully participate in your normal activities of daily living.
During rotator cuff surgery, there may be removal of loose fragments and debris from the space in the shoulder where the rotator cuff moves. Our Oklahoma City shoulder specialist may also need to make more room for the rotator cuff tendon so it is not pinched or irritated. There also may be a need to sew the torn edges of the tendon together or reattach them with anchors at the top of the arm bone. Rotator cuff surgery is generally done using arthroscopic surgery, which allows for small incisions, less pain and quicker recovery.
After meeting with you, examining your shoulder and discussing your particular goals and activity demands, Dr. Nolan will discuss with you the problem you are having with your shoulder and the options available to help get you back in the game. If you would like to visit with our expert orthopedic shoulder surgeon for a definitive diagnosis, and information on the best treatment options for you, we hope you will make an appointment to visit us soon at Oklahoma Shoulder Center.
